Kazakhstan is reviving the legendary aport apple

16 sep. 2025

Following the instruction of the Head of State, a large-scale program has been launched to restore this famous apple variety. In 2024, seeds of the wild Sievers apple — the ancestor of cultivated varieties — were collected in the mountainous areas of the Dzungarian Alatau. They were sown and a nursery was established. In February of this year, winter budding was carried out on 10 hectares to grow high-quality seedlings. By 2027, it is planned to plant 110 hectares of aport orchards.
