During the 1980s, the Almaty Zoo experienced a period of active development: the animal collection expanded, enclosures were modernized, and connections with other Soviet zoos were established. Special attention was given to winter conditions—heated shelters were built for warm-climate species, and the zoo’s operation schedule was adapted to Almaty’s climate.
