A zoo is an educational institution where wild animals are kept in captivity (in cages or enclosures) or in semi-captive conditions (areas enclosed in a way that is close to their natural habitat). The goals of a zoo include public demonstration of animal species, promotion of natural science knowledge, spreading ideas of wildlife conservation, and preserving the gene pool of rare and endangered animals.
