Young Technicians’ Stations in Almaty: Workshops for Future Engineers

5 march 1970

During the Soviet era, Young Technicians’ Stations were a vital part of the extracurricular education system, introducing children to the world of technology and creativity.

The Young Technicians’ Station is an educational center for children and teenagers that has been operating since Soviet times. Each district of Almaty had such a station, where schoolchildren participated in various technical clubs — including aircraft modeling, radio electronics, and car modeling.

These stations became a foundation for nurturing technical thinking and engineering skills. All classes were free, and mentors were passionate specialists. Children explored the basics of mechanics, electricity, drafting, and practical design.

Today, these centers continue to function as creative and educational hubs, inspiring new generations with a passion for engineering and innovation.
