Turkestan is a city in Kazakhstan, the administrative center of Turkestan Region. It is one of the oldest cities in Kazakhstan, founded in the 5th-6th centuries. 

The city of Turkestan is located 170 kilometers from the city of Shymkent. To the east, it borders the historic city of Otrar, to the north — the city of Kentau and the Sozak district, and to the west — the Zhanakorgan district of the Kyzylorda region. The administrative area of the city covers 9,400 square kilometers
