The Committee for National Security of the Republic of Kazakhstan is a special state body directly subordinated to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It oversees the unified system of national security organs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, conducts intelligence, counterintelligence, and operational-search activities, ensures the protection of the State Border of the Republic of Kazakhstan, implements the tasks of the Government Communications Service and the Special Purpose Service "A", coordinates interdepartmental activities in its areas of competence, and enforces a unified policy in the field of state secrets protection.
